Medical BrigadesSince 1996 we have had around 25 medical brigades of one to two weeks duration. Working together with the GLOBAL HEALTH OUTREACH (GHO) of the CHRISTIAN MEDICAL AND DENTAL ASSOCIATION (CMDA), FORWARD EDGE INTERNATIONAL, and other North American groups, we have been supported with medical specialists in the areas of General Medicine, Optometry, Ophthalmology, Gynecology, Cardiology, Pediatrics, ENT and Dentistry. Likewise we have also done General Surgery, Orthopedics, ENT, and repairs of cleft lip and cleft palate. We have served various communities and provinces of Ecuador, especially in areas where medical services are scarce and the economic situation is precarious. During these brigades we have also worked with the emotional and spiritual part of each person, sharing the love of God and the grace of Jesus Christ with them. Many people have benefited from these free medical and surgical interventions. About 2500 patients are seen in each brigade, averaging about 500 each day. The more severe cases have been sent to the United States for further medical attention, especially those needing spinal surgery or open heart surgery.
